I wanted to create a feeling of separation in this piece, the way one feels looking out at a busy world from the shelter of an upstairs apartment. When I made this image I didn't consider it a particularly melancholy work. But now, with the isolation we are all experiencing during the COVID 19 pandemic, this image evokes a sense of longing.
