I originally created this portrait of Laika in November 2007 on the 50th anniversary of her ill-fated trip to space. She was one of the original USSR cosmonaut dogs used to test the viability of life in space. Sadly, Laika did not survive long. I portrayed her looking up and beyond the canvas into the unknown.
For more information on Laika please see my blog, Marilyn's Artnotes.
The original painting measures 12" x 12", acrylic on canvas, completed in 2007. It remains in my own collection.
